In accordance with legislation the Ontario Liberals passed last fall, the province's minimum wage will be increased each year in line with the Consumer Price Index (CPI). Beginning October 1st, 2015, the minimum wage for adults will increase from $11.00 to $11.25.
The minimum wage for students will also increase from $10.30 to $10.55 per hour and the rate for liquor servers will increase from $9.55 to $9.80 per hour. The $11.25 will be Canada's second highest minimum wage rate, behind the Northwest Territories which will reach $12.50 per hour as of June 2015. (Source)
This increase represents the 9th increase in Ontario's minimum wage since the Liberals came into power in October 2003 and an increase of 57% in the rate since their first increase in 2004.
